Grumpy Smart

I mentioned about the redundancies and the Blonde's magical powers in the previous blog To Job or not to job. Smart has been very worried about his job because his department is one of the ones hit hard. And whilst the Company are making a song and dance about how they will support those being redundant, the consultation process and all that has been such an extremely slow process.
Of course I have tried many times to reassure Smart that as one of the brightest stars in the City he will be fine. But the reality is that no one is safe in this climate, and we have seen many bright careers end. And there is always the reality that whilst no company wants to be without its brightest stars when the markets recover, thye are also usually the expensive ones.
Smart has been grumpy as hell, and it has been a hard few weeks for our relationship. I totally understand and have been trying my best to be the supportive girlfriend, a job that I'm not overly confident that I am wholly successful at. He says that I don't understand because I know my department is unaffected but I quietly disagree – anything for an easy life. We have had our first rows over the silliest things.
This lunch time after an extended moaning session by Smart, I mentioned that I could always take up the Blonde on her offer to find out from her director shag whether he will be affected. I was told that to ever discuss him or his job with the Blonde would be the greatest insult and betrayal ever. I have never seen Smart so angry before. I really was only trying to say something constructive or help in any way.
I want this crap period over. I want this grumpy Smart that I don't even recognise in all our years as friends. I want my happy, fun, wonderful boyfriend back.
